Retention Play Lab

Prototype & sector adaptations

A small interaction. A reason to explore.

A JavaScript retention prototype translated into two playable sector concepts: product discovery for e-commerce and chart literacy for fintech.

01 / The challenge

A small interaction. A reason to explore.

An engagement prompt needs a useful reason to exist. The original project explored how to offer a short, optional interaction at an eligible moment, then return the visitor to the product. The sector adaptations give that interaction a specific purpose: discover an item or understand a chart.

02 / The work

Build a reusable retention module

Developed a JavaScript prototype with configurable entry conditions, frequency limits, optional participation, a clear result and a return CTA. Its event hooks distinguish an impression, interaction, result, dismissal and handoff. The module was prepared for host-product integration.

Adapt the mechanic to product discovery

Created Price Sense: compare the next fictional item with a known sample price, choose higher or lower, then reveal its price and a useful feature. Five comparisons introduce a small collection; correct answers earn demonstration points.

Make financial learning interactive

Created Trend Lab: read whether a visible new point sits above or below the previous reading. Each reveal explains the exact change in a synthetic series. The task teaches chart interpretation through a finite exercise.

Give each sector its own creative

Designed original product illustrations and a retail composition for Price Sense, paired with a dark chart-led identity for Trend Lab. English hooks, feedback and end states connect the visual treatment to the purpose of each experience.

Complete the interaction, including the edges

Implemented start, answer, reveal, next round, completion and replay states with keyboard and touch controls. Answers lock after selection, progress stays visible and a wrong answer still reveals the content. The local examples use fixed demo data and require no account.

03 / What the work produced

A foundation
to build on.

A documented JavaScript retention prototype and two working sector adaptations, each with an original creative treatment and a complete five-round experience. Together they show how the same interaction pattern can support different product goals.

Project context

The original international project remains anonymous. Price Sense and Trend Lab are newly created adaptation prototypes, not deployed retail or financial products. Prices and chart values are illustrative; points are not redeemable. No retention or conversion uplift is claimed.
